TRIBUTE TO FOLU, A FRIEND INDEED AND IN TRUTH Folu, as I always knew and called him was my friend of almost fifty years. Our paths first crossed at the University of Lagos where we collaborated on academics and socials as students at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Lagos. Ever then, Folu was matured, brilliant, humble and very social. He somehow, managed to combine academics very successfully with an active social life and a career. I recall that he was already working while we were at Akoka. On leaving UNILAG, Folu joined the very respected Engr. Akin Taiwo’s AKTA Consultants/Edison Group & Partners where his quality shone through and within a short time, he had established himself as a brilliant Power and Services Engineer. I had moved on to HF Schroeder and our friendship continued. When I became the Deputy Managing Director of HF Schroeder and the need to appoint an Electrical Engineer as the pioneer Nigerian Electrical Engineering Manager presented itself, my thought went to Folu without hesitation. However, he pleaded for understanding for not taking up the appointment because of his commitment to building Celmeng Associates into a formidable engineering firm. Folu went on to become a very successful Engineering Consultant with landscape projects dotting the nation’s landscape. When I started Kresta Laurel Limited, Folu was one of the pillars of support. He supported us without reservation. He also gave us a fair chance in projects under his preview despite being an indigenous engineering company in an industry that was the exclusive preserve of the multinationals. He was a thorough-bred professional, a great family man, a true man of God and a friend indeed and in truth. The loss of my dear friend, Foluso Olusanya adds to the list of beloved friends that have answered the call of the Almighty God especially in the past one year or so. It is a development that brings to full reality the fact that every day brings us closer to our departure from this world. It also reminds all of us to be closer to God and think of legacies that we will leave behind. I am proud to state that Folu left great legacies and footprints in both of his professional and spiritual life. Thus, painful though his passage might be, we must take solace in the facts that he knew Christ and left such fond memories. I commend his beloved wife and children to the care of the Almighty God and I pray for the repose of his amiable soul. Goodnight - FOLU His Excellency, Engr. (Otunba) Gbenga Daniel, FAEng, FIoD Executive Governor, Ogun State(2003-2011).
